Hopefully cruising with a warrant is something that you have to worry about… but the question does come up from time to time.
So what will happen if you cruise from Galveston while you’re wanted by the law?
You’ll be arrested.
Every cruise passenger is run through a database and checked by customs enforcement. That means if you have any warrants in your name, they will appear to officers.
In fact, according to law enforcement website ThePoliceNews.net, five people were recently arrested when they arrived back in Galveston after their cruise…
“Here is some advice from the Galveston Port Police. If you are planning a cruise you should make sure you have no outstanding felony warrants anywhere. If you do, you will hear a knock on your stateroom door when your ship docks in Galveston and it will be the U.S. Customs Service and Galveston Port Police on the other side and you will be carted off to the Galveston County Jail.
“Port Police Investigator Clemente Garcia told The Police News today just such an incident occurred Saturday when five cruise returnees wound up in the county jail instead of on their way home.
“Garcia says the personal information on cruise passengers is given to U.S. Customs Police when they leave on the cruise. While they are on the cruise every passenger is checked for warrants. Then, when they return, the agents and police board the ship, go to their cabins and arrest them. They do not wait for passenger unloading.”
It’s tough to escape the long arm of the law, even on the open seas.

Leaving out of galveston tx to cacumen. If I have a warrent from way back will i have a problem?
We aren’t legal experts, but it’s not a good idea to cruise with a warrant. Law enforcement checks passengers lists against outstanding warrants.
to be clear, a warrant from a speeding ticket and not a felon is not a good idea?
We’re not cops or lawyers, but would suggest you get it cleared up beforehand. No reason to have to look over your shoulder the entire trip.
I have a class c misdemeanor warrant I can’t take care of till after the cruise. Can I still go on the cruise and will I be arested?
We’re not lawyers but we’d get the warrant taken care of ASAP. No sense in having it hanging over your head.
I had a nine year old warrant, that I had no clue about!!! I was taken straight to jail. They would not call my Husband until two hours later. We were on our honeymoon, and with family!
Get a passport, and make sure you are good, even if you believe you are perfectly fine!!!
This was a mistake, and was supposed to have been taken care of nine years ago. Well, it wasn’t!! A very embarrassing moment for me, with my new family members. My husband was amazing though!!
