Galveston’s Disney Magic Named Best Large Cruise Ship by Conde Nast Traveler

Disney Magic Ship

As if you needed any more evidence that Galveston is becoming a world-class port for cruising…

In the February issue of Conde Nast Traveler, the magazine released its latest annual cruise ship ratings. Topping the list for large cruise liners? The Disney Cruise Lines’ ship Magic, which currently sails out of the Port of Galveston.

The ship’s 89.9 rating, which is based off of the magazine’s reader poll, topped the second-place Disney Wonder by three-tenths of a point.

So what is it about Disney’s ships that causes them to rank so highly? Well, the Disney Magic had a score of 96.2 for service, by far its best category. In fact, of the seven ranked categories, only two scored below 90.0 — food and excursions.

Truth be told, there’s no doubt that the Disney Magic is a beautiful ship, and we’re lucky that she sails from Galveston. But we also wonder if there is not a bias toward Disney ships in the reader poll. The top three ships in the poll were all Disney ships.

“Overall, our readers think all three ships are excellent,” said John Newton, Conde Nast Traveler’s Service and Surveys Editor. “The scores of the Disney Dream and the Disney Magic are separated by only 0.4 points.”

In other words, it’s a great ship, but maybe gets a little too much credit…
